I have a hard time choosing fabric.

 It does not matter the project, I lack confidence or expertise knowing what colors, pattern or print will go with any given project. I chuckle at myself because perhaps anything goes. I think that I will try an Alexander Henry fabric for the Tova top and , if money was no option, a Liberty fabric for the dress. 

In the mail this week I received my orders from Sew Mama Sew, Miz Mozelle Dress pattern and from Jimmy Beans Wool, Coastal Kits book. Presents!

I began a little garden with tomatoes, thyme, cilantro, green onion and basil. The bugs have eaten our basil and don't know if it will recover. The tomatoes are growing an inch a day. So with this success I thought I would try a bigger project in the backyard.

Here is an layout from the Country Living Magazine that might look nice in our backyard??? Ambitious! 

Due to where we live some of the trees and scrubs will not grow well here. But it is a plan and design that looks like a quilt, provides access to the gardening beds and if we choose our plants well , might be a successful little garden. More pictures to come

Bucket hat- quick & easy

 

Made the muslin and followed the pattern instructions. The hat just fit my daughters head. So...wanting her to be able to wear it through this coming summer I made some adjustments. I reduced all the seam allowances to 1/4". The hat came together really easily and quickly. I think this hat would be fabulous in linen. Just a thought....

I used the tutorial found on The Longthread website, DIY Flower Hair Clip for May and made a fluffy flower for the brim. A quick and easy tutorial. 

Maybe a ribbon and bow would look nice too? 

I am looking for fabric to stitch up a dress or two for my teenage daughters. I am a bit nervous. But first I will make a muslin and go from there.

Tova muslin done....high five!

My first top and first muslin...I had an old sheet that I used to make this muslin. I am a little embarrassed  to use an old sheet but at the same time feeling very thrifty and satisfied. I would recommend this pattern  for it's ease of use, clear directions and fabulous fit. Now I can go out with confidence and purchase pretty fabric. My daughters like the top too, but being teenagers I will probably make them the dress. 

Which brings me to a conversation with dd#3. I like making bread and quilts. DD#3 said to me the other day,"I wish you were to the type of mom, you know, the kind that makes pastries and clothes, not bread and quilts." Well maybe she is right. I know she appreciates the bread and quilts I make but it made me laugh. Maybe it is time to shift a little and try new things. I like looking at Sew Weekly's blog so maybe I will try a few dresses and see if I have success. I have always wanted to make croissants....is that a pastry?
