#7
chain stitching postcards ~ liberating
#'s 6, 7, & 8
#8
We are on break from school but not from our projects. This is a great time to spend an hour or two each day with a big return in the form of a quilt. I think we will both finish our quilt tops during our break and we will see about the back, quilting and binding. That's a whole different process.

Yesterday a few of us quilters gathered at Home Ec Studio in South Park. Chain stitching is liberating. Instead of sewing a complete row of alternating postcards and sashing posts together, I stitched a postcard with a post, one after another. Keeping each row connected, I draped all the rows over a hanger. To my right was another clever quilter who was doing a similar thing but she had strips of fabric that she would sew the individual square pieces. Next time...

My husband and I spent the afternoon having lunch then walking around found a cute shop, Pigment, in North Park. It was one of those perfect, satisfying days.

Spending time doing lots of small things that add up to big things.

Finished it Friday

Darling daughters trying to hold it ~ gusty wind

draping nicely
Still have the top, bottom and side borders to do. Does is still count for "Finished it Friday'?  A decision on how wide each border is still to be made. Next time I take a picture of this quilt it will be quilted and bound.

Onto the next...What should it be?
I should probably decide on what things I want to hand make for Christmas because in this home, I have many interruptions and 'squirrel' moments ~

Have a happy Weekend!

Postcards from Kauai ~

Postcards from Hawaii by Lisa Boyer

Here is my 'Postcards From Hawaii' quilt all laid out on my floor. Yesterday the dog kept walking through then would lay down and wag his tail...you get the idea. I purchased all the fabric from Kapaia Stitchery on the island of Kauai. Next all the sashing, sash posts and borders.

I cut each of the postcards 1/2" bigger on each side for a larger quilt. None were 'fussy cut'. I also increased the size of all the sashings by the same amount.  I figured that an 11 X 11 arrangement plus the borders would be the right size to cover and drape nicely over the bed. My goal, a quilt that will fit our eastern king sized bed.

Now to pick them up, label the rows and start stitching ~
